"After a long day of driving, through dark, winding, desolate roads, we finally reached the hotel, ready for a warm bed and nice meal. This place did not disappoint. What's really cool about this hotel is that it's basically a small farm, with resident animals on-site. You'll be woken up by the rooster, greeted by cows, and quacked at by some ducks. The food at their restaurant is basically sourced from their farm."

"This is a great place to stop. The staff are friendly, the food in the restaurant is good (make sure you get your table booked when you check in as it can get busy), and the room is comfortable. Also, the farm animals are lovely! Never have we met such a friendly sheep as the one at Hraunsnef. The sheep came over to us and wanted a little scratch and nuzzle, which we happily obliged. Absolutely delightful."

"The hotel is a working farm so don’t be surprised if sheep are outside your door in the morning [or sheep excrement on the soles of your shoes if not careful]. The rooms were spacious by Icelandic standards. The bathroom was very modern. Part of the attraction is to wander around near the sheep and cattle or take photographs of tractors and the like. A real bonus was the excellent restaurant on site which apparently attracts Icelanders for miles [or kilometers] around. On the expectations’ game, this place is a winner, hands down."

Room Tip: Room 24 is nearest the Ring Road, still quiet

"A delightful place. The folks greeted us with open arms and honest smiles. The room was plenty comfortable. The food, really good: one of the very best burgers ever I have eaten. The breakfast was beautiful! And in addition to all that, the environs were wonderful for hiking.
I would certainly stay here again."
